Actions to be Taken Our initial Action Plan will have our group working with community leaders and identifying different strategies to reach the diverse citizens within the Wilkes Creek neighborhood. We will accomplish this by doing our research on demographics, successful case studies with similar problems and follow best practices in every phase of our project. Outreach activities will be better defined through our research efforts; we will determine which form of outreach will be most productive as well as garner the best public participation results. Our primary goal is to get more minority stakeholders to become involved in the planning process. We will have to identify any barriers to achieving this goal and remedy with innovative solutions (i.e. interpreters). We will put together a website to keep community members informed and set up several more meetings with WCG and the Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) students. There are several community group meetings and activities taking place in the near future and we will try to have someone from the group attend them and hopefully everyone will have the chance to attend at least one. Information obtained from these additional events could help inform our group with new strategies previously not thought of. Our group also plans on doing a walk and knock as our first form of contact within the community. Objectives for this activity will be better defined as we approach the day. Sometime in March we would like to have a brochure that addresses the many languages found in the Wilkes Creek Community. Identifying when and what should be addressed in the citizen community meeting will be outlined and revised. Starting next term our efforts will most likely be garnered at conducting neighborhood meetings and recording what the neighbors would like to see their Park become. Portland Parks and Recreation requires at least two citizen meetings be held as to identify possibilities and then to determine the best fit that represent the communities’ values. It is our desire to help the Wilkes Creek Community to achieve this goal.

Actions to be Taken
Our initial Action Plan will be assisting PP&R with the first phase of creating a master plan, which is site analysis. Within that phase we will be conducting research both with the community side as well as the natural side- meaning assessing the topography, existing vegetation, and waterways. For the community side, in order to understand its demographics, we will be reaching out to local churches and minority resources. At our meeting we met Lindsey who will be a valuable resource in assisting us with community outreach. However, before we can start planning any big meetings or workshops, it is absolutely necessary to cover ground and take small steps of outreach. The small-step outreach will be more about trying to understand what the stakeholders would like to see, especially within the context of possibility. Among these outreach techniques will be web-based outreach. Silva created a Facebook page for future use as a web-based interaction method which can include a web-based calendar of events for the neighborhood. Creating brochures/flyers- in the various languages that reflect the demographics to inform stakeholders of planned events and opportunities to get involved- aren’t planned events and opportunities to get involved kind of the same thing?, survey/questionnaires to analyze the desires and / opinions of the community, and physical outreach such as door to door surveying to meet the community are some other techniques we will use. It is imperative to remind those involved that we may not be at the point in development to answer some questions, but to invite them to join their neighborhood association to stay connected and to have a voice in all phases of planning and development. In conjunction with the demographic research our team will be aiding English with the natural research.
**with regards to Deedra’s section, if there is anything that anyone thinks should be added to the Action Plan paragraph above please feel free to add it. But since she wasn’t there at the meeting I went ahead and wrote up a new paragraph based off of the new info**

The work done there will allow us, as well as WCG and PP&R, have a better idea of what the opportunities and constraints are with regards to the physical layout of the land. That knowledge will allow us to be able to better serve the community. In regards to what kind of work will be done each term, right now we will be spending our time gather the information and assessing it. Then spring term is when we will plan, implement, and hopefully host, community events with PP&R.
